Trainee Eligibility Criteria

🔹 Education & Experience
You must meet one of the following:

  • A foreign post-secondary degree or professional certificate plus at least 1 year of relevant work experience outside the U.S.,
    OR

  • At least 5 years of full-time professional experience in your field (if you don’t hold a degree or certificate).

🔹 Age Requirement

  • You must be 18 years or older.

  • The recommended age range is 20–35.

🔹 English Proficiency

  • You must have sufficient English skills to actively participate in training (both spoken and written).

🔹 Intent to Return

  • You must intend to return to your home country after completing the program.

    The J-1 visa does not support dual intent for permanent immigration.

🔹 Program Duration

  • Training programs can last up to 18 months, depending on the field.
    (Note: Some sectors like hospitality or agriculture may have shorter limits.)
