🌎 Trainee Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the J-1 Trainee program, participants must meet all of the following:

• Education & Experience:

  • Hold a foreign post-secondary degree or professional certificate plus at least one year of relevant work experience acquired outside the U.S., OR

  • Have at least five years of full-time work experience in their field, outside the U.S., if no degree or certificate is held.

• Age:

  • Must be at least 18 years old (recommended: 20–35).

• English Proficiency:

  • Must possess sufficient English language skills to effectively participate in the training program (oral and written).

• Intention to Return:

  • Must clearly demonstrate intent to return to their home country upon completion of the program (J-1 is not a dual-intent visa).

• Program Duration:

  • Training programs may last up to 18 months, depending on the field (e.g., shorter in hospitality and agriculture).
